The Covey Theater Story…

Originally incorporated in 2010 by Susan Blumer, Garrett Heater, and Mike Penny, The Covey Theater Company quickly established itself as a leading performing arts company in Central New York. Over 5 years, Covey produced high-quality plays, re-imagined classic musicals, and original world premieres, garnering 30 Syracuse Area Live Theater (SALT) awards. The company also participated in the prestigious New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC from 2013-2015, before closing with an encore production of the show that started it all, Lizzie Borden Took an Axe

Members of the original company then formed Syracuse Summer Theater at The Oncenter, bringing highly attended musical productions to the Bevard Studio from 2016-2019, including Cabaret, Spring Awakening, Pippin, and Damn Yankees. Post-pandemic, the time was right to re-inaugurate The Covey Theater Company for a new generation of performers, patrons, and productions.

Covey is slated to move into its permanent home at The Grove Theater in Fall of 2027! Read about the building transformation HERE.
